Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Is phenergan safe for a 6 month old weighing 9.5kg please? My gp told me to give phenergan to my youngest son for chicken pox (very bad chicken pox) but I cannot find dosage instructions for under 2 and am nervous about giving it. He also told me to give ibuprofen which I am reluctant to give also.
Phenargan dose is [2-5 yr 5-15 mg daily in 1 or 2 divided doses] and [5-10 yr 10-25 mg daily in 1 or 2 divided doses] not recommended for child.
Secondly for Ibuprofen-: Child: 6 month to 12 yr 10 mg/kg 8 hrly. So 100 mg is the dose. For a child no need to give ibuprofen if fever comes then give only paracetamol.
I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me. Wishing you all the best.
Thanks, Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
