I have Factor 5 Leiden and take Coumadin - 5 mg. five days per week and 2.5 two days. I have Meniere s Disease, Trigeminal Neuralgia, DVT; have experienced stroke and TGA; many allergies and sensitivities. I am 76 yrs old, female, and fairly active and in possession of my faculties. Is the Coumadin a wise course for me?

Yes you need to take coumadin . Coumadin is a blood thinner which decreases the viscosity of blood ( thins the blood ) so that it doesn't clot easily .
Factor 5 Leiden deficiency with history of DVT Stroke means that you blood has high tendency to clot so it needs to be thin life long to prevent recurrence of Stroke or DVT. But since Coumadin thins the blood the chances of internal bleeding is high . The fatal complication of Brain Hemorrhage is always there .
But compared to the benefits it gives, the risk of bleeding can be ignored . Kindly continue the medicine .
