Is Colestipol An Alternative Of Cholestyramine?

I am taking Cholestyramine because of having had gall bladder surgery. It is horrible in taste. Would taking Colestipol be the same as taking the other. My stool is very soft almost loose. My family dr. says there is no pill for for Cholestyramine. I am taking it with juice.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Both are bile acid sequestrants and work in the gut by trapping bile acids preventing them from being reabsorbed. Colestipol works on LDL specifically.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
