79 year old female taking lisinopril once a day 20mg since first of month, not controlling bp. This week dr increased to BID since Wednesday. BP still increasing. Last night - 11:30pm 159/94, clonidine 0.1mg taken. 4am awoke - checked BP, 165/106. 0.1mg clonidine taken again. At 6:45am, BP 170/95, she took her 20mg lisinopril. 9:30am bp- 149/91, she took her hydroclorothiazide 12.5mg. At 11:00am bp 137/86. She is trying to control with the meds until she can see her dr. on Monday. Now my question - is it ok for her to take the clonidine more than 3 times a day to keep her bp down?
She has been told to call 911 if bp increases over 110 diastolic ...But she doesn't want to go to ER as she has been before and they monitor, get it down and send her home and tell her to contact her dr. She is trying to control herself until she can see her dr again on Monday.....thanks!!!
