Is Citrobacter Infection In The Tonsils Contagious?

Hello, my name is Floyd, and I recently had went to a urgent care near my home. My tonsils were hurting and I wanted to find out why. Long story short, a culture swab test had told me I had Citrobacter. I have been taking antibiotics and I am wanting to know how long does this bacteria last after antibiotics. Also is it contagious?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Citrobacter very rarely causes tonsillitis. It may mainly caused peritonsillar abscess or adenoid hypertrophy.

It may takes 2-3 weeks to recover from tonsillitis.

Please consult your ENT specialist he will do drug sensitivity test and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
