Hello, I was told to give my 15 month old children s Benadryl for a runny nose. The main problem for him was at night, this caused a bad cough in which he would wake up a few times crying each night for a few weeks now. He has occasionally had mild (99.4-99.8°) fevers. He has also been teething. We have been giving him ibuprofen a few times a week when we have noticed these slight fevers. Today was his first and only dose of Benadryl (1tsp). He weighs 24lbs. About a half hour later he was extremely tired, craby, and acted lethargic. About 4 hours after we checked his temp and it is now 102.8°. Still had night time coughing. I will no longer continue using it, and I am glad I didn t give it to him before bed. But, my question is there something else wrong here? It says to not give to children under 2, but my child s Dr. said to anyway and at this dose.
