My father in law has high blood pressure. My wife just informed me that even with his prescribed meds his bp is hovering around 200/140. I know this in definitely not good, in fact it s a hypertensive crisis. He is on his way home from work and I asked his wife to take his bp reading right away. If it is high, say 180/120 and above should we take him to the emergency room asap?
hi,
If I were your treating Doctor for this case of hypertension, i would surely straight away label it as emergency condition where you need physician consultation for change of drugs from which he is using presently.i would put him on combination of drugs to treat the case.
if you delay patient may get attack of stroke leading him to paralysis of one side of body and bleeding from nose may also presents.
ususally there will be kidney complaints where there will be decrease passage of urine or swelling of legs frequently.
if you see the above symptoms patients should be treated as soon as possible.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
