Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 66 year old male with a recent ast # of 44. I have been taking statins for 17 years and am also taking metoprolol and losartin as a result of hbp along with an implant to control ventricular tachycardia. Should I be concerned with the ast number?
I understand your concern. Normal levels of AST vary from 10 to 49 units per liter, so 44 is a very mild elevation and no reason for concern. However, being on statins, which are known to increase liver enzyme levels, you should regularly test for AST and ALT. I hope this helps. Wishing you all the best.
