Insect Bites Kind Of Lumps On Body, Swelling. On Antiseptic Solution, Antihistamine. Spreading. Should I Worry?

My husband started having these insect bite like bumps on his both legs three days ago. They seem to be extremely itchy and if scratched gets swollen. First we thought it was bed bug bites since we are abroad staying in a hotel. So we changed our room, cleaned the bite like bumps with antiseptic solution, applied anti itch cream and took antihistamine orally. It has not improved at all and now spreading to his elbows and back. We have a baby and a 6 year old. What could this be? We are worried that whatever this is could be transmitted to our children.

Hi

Thanks for your query

Your husband seem to be developing a vasculitic skin rash.
All the sites that you have mentioned are the sites commonly involved in such reactions.
Firstly let me assure you that such a rash is non contagious in nature.
So do not worry about transmitting it to your child.
Now it is important to find out the cause of the skin rash.
Find out if there is any history of intake of any drugs in the week prior to the development of the skin rash. Especially drugs like pain killers, antipyretics or antibiotics are the common offending agents in this case.
Also was there history of any illness prior to the development of the rash, anything like cough or cold or an upset abdomen.
Now regarding the treatment, he should apply a topical steroid cream , something like clobetasol over the affected area atleast twice a day.
Take oral antihistamines to relieve the itching.

Hope it helps
