Infant With Foul Smelling Diarrhea. Could This Be Due To The Lactose In Food?
hello, i have a 20 month old and she is having diarrhea that smells like something died in her diaper. i dont understand why this is. i know she is lactose and when ever she eat diary foods she always has bad smelling poops. im really confused by this is this nomal for a baby if they are lactose or is it not? also she has a poor apatite too. she dont really eat some days and them other days she will eat a lot! please help me.
Hi dear,
Thanks for your query. Lactose intolerance can produce foul smelling diarrhea. But how does she behave after stopping dairy products. Foul smelling diarrhea should stop after stopping dairy products. Then it supports a diagnosis of lactose intolerance. You can discuss with your doctor about doing a stool test for reducing substances to confirm a diagnosis. Just check her weight. If its around 10-11 kg then she is doing fine. Need not bother about her eating pattern as long as she is gaining weight satisfactorily.
Take care
