Increased Blood Sugar Levels After Taking Xarelto. Taking Humalog, Lantus. Medication Side Effect?
sure, but i type with a mouthstick so bare with me. I began taking Xarelto 3 weeks ago and have notice a nearly 75 unit spike in my blood sugar. I'm using 50 mg of Lantus at night before bed; 6 mg. of Humalog before lunch, my presumed biggest meal of day. Next appt. w/doctor is early July after blood draw at lab. My doctor will freak at my A1C results. Could the spike be attributed to the Xarelto?
Hello Thanks for posting your query on healthcare magic You have not told us about why you are taking xarelto (Rivaroxaban); it is oral anticoagulant (blood thinner) and given for treatment of increased clot formation or increase chance of clot formation. To my best knowledge Xarelto does not increases blood sugar. Possibly sudden increase in sugar due to stress of some disease you are suffering (? for which you are taking oral anticoagualnts) Bottom line of diabetes management is round the clock blood sugar control, reflected by HbA1C. You need to increase the doses of insulin preparations under supervision. If it is transient trigger for hyperglycemia (increased sugar) then BEWARE of HYPOGLYCEMIA (low blood sugar) could be dangerous and may occur when trigger will be removed Hope this helps, wish you best health.
