I was recently prescribed Trazodone for anxiety and mild insomnia.

I was recently prescribed Trazodone for anxiety and mild insomnia. I am very hesitant to take it because in the past I have had difficulty with anti-depressant drugs. Can you tell me about any side effects from this medication and/or any thing else I could use to treat anxiety?

I recently(7 days ago) suffered a moderate mechanical trauma to my brain.I complained of insomnia to my family doctor who prescribed trazodone 50MG.I have also been aware of some mood swings coupled with confusion and mild anxiety .I have read a description of some of the side effects of this drug and it seems to suggest a risk of the very symptoms I am complaining of.Is this drug indicated for my symptoms.David Bates Vancouver canada.

Can you give me some guidance on the best medication for my symptoms please? I am looking for something to help me deal with anxiety and insomnia; however my situation is complicated by chronic ibs, so that my gut is particularly sensitive to any drugs. This is also the main source of my anxiety as it is very stressful to plan to go out anywhere. I have recently been prescribed 10 mg amytriptyline to help my ibs, but found during 2 weeks of taking it that the side effects were worse than my condition. In fact it made my insomnia much worse. There are so many anti-depressants and my own GP doesn t seem to know where to start. I need something which can be taken at a low dose, is mildly sedating to help sleep at night, and does not cause diahrea (which I still can t spell!). I am a 58 year old woman: research also suggests that post-menopausal women need different medication to those who have estrogen present. Thank you

My husband was prescribed lopressor (beta blocker) for his recent A-Fib. Shortly after taking it his anxiety goes through the roof. He s been having chronic insomnia for 3-4 months now and this doesn t seem to be helping him at all. Can he counteract the effects with xanax and how much if so?
