I was walking over my brothers bike on my sidewalk and i fell and the kickstand stabbed my leg now there is a huge gash and it is swelling very bad and i also banged my knee extremely hard on the ground and now it is swollen and it is extremely painful to move or to stand on. Could i have possibly damaged my knee or broke it somehow?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
dear customer,

The chances of fracture or soft tissue injury might be there which is causing such pain and swelling at the local area.

You should have the x-ray of the knee joint done to rule out any fracture.Meanwhile you may apply the analgesic ointments like diclofenac on the site and take NSAID like motrin, advil to control the pain and swelling.

The fracture is any needs to be fixed and immobilsed after consulting an orthopaedician.

Thank you
