How To Treat Recurring Fungal Infection In Scrotum?

I have a persistent fungal or other infection in my scrotum which has not been successfully treated with the over the counter available remedies. The symptoms are a shrivelled up scrotal surface and swelling of the region. What would you recommend for this condition?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The symptoms can be either due to dermatitis or fungal infection (Tinea) in the scrotal region.

Management includes:
1. Keeping the area dry & avoid too much exposure to water or sweat formation.
2. Antihistamine preparations like cetirizine to reduce the itching sensation & provide symptomatic relief.
3. Application of topical antifungal cream like Clotrimazole or Miconazole to tackle the causative organism.
4. Topical antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infections.
5. Rule out systemic illness like Diabetes, which causes recurrence/ persistence of infection.

If symptoms still persist or aggravate further, then it will be better to consult a Dermatologist & get a proper examination done to find out the actual cause. So that appropriate management steps could be taken.

Also avoid wearing tight undergarments and trousers, as it will cause sweating & predispose to fungal infections.
Wishing you a Good Health.
Take care.
