How To Treat Painful Bump On The Bone Behind Ear?

Hello,My 2 year-old daughter has a hard bump on the bone behind her ear. I would say it is about the width of a nickle, and sticks out about the width of my pinky finger. It is hard and has no give to it. It also seems to be painful if it is touched. As far as I can recall, it was not there this morning. Should I be taking my daughter to the ER, or wait to see what happens?Thank you.Colleen

Hi

Welcome in HCM.

After thinking over all aspect of clinical history and co-relating them with possible pathology it appears as your daughter is having post aural acute lymphadenitis. The possible causes of it are-

1- Dandruff on scalp.

2- Furunculosis of scalp.

3- Infection of ear of same side.

But whenever any lump or bump is notice any where in body it becomes necessary to identify it's nature before planning for treatment. In this way two basic investigations are must and these are-

a- Ultrasonic study of bump.

b- FNAC from bump.

Keeping all above in mind it will be better to consult your ENT doctor for examination and relevant investigation for treatment.

Thanks for consulting HCM.
