How To Treat Misalignment Of Bones In Ribs Causing Severe Pain And Heaviness?

I broke 3 ribs in June 2014. They are still painful if I lift a bit too heavy etc. My doctor recommended I see a physio. They both think it is muscular. Should I get an xray to check they have healed? I m 50 years old and the broken bones were slightly misaligned after they broke.

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Rib fractures are managed by immobilizing the ribs for couple of days or weeks.
Immobilization is done by strapping the chest and painkillers to relieve the pain.
The pain is generally relieved by pain killers, however, if the pain is still persisting a X-ray of chest should be done to confirm that the rib fracture has united.
Non-union or malunion are uncommon in rib fracture ,however, they have to be ruled out.
If the rib fracture has united then probably the pain is muscular in origin.

Thanks and take care
