How To Treat Knee Meniscus Sprain Causing Pain And Electric Sensation?

First I have fibromyalgia . May 9th had surgery on my knee meniscus tear. What I m dealing with is a stabbing pain/ burning & severe electrical shock in one spot only. Suppose to go back to Orthopaedic after my 12 visits of therapy but couldn t walk & pain is so bad that after 3 visits I went back to the orthopedic this past Friday & & said it s a sprained ligament. He gave me a shot in that spot. By Saturday I finally have some pain relief buuuuuut I m still have this electrical shock feeling in that one spot .Not the area where the surgery was done on the knee, About 3 away from that area. But I now can walk , but that electrical shock still is happening. What is that electrical shock ?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.

The electric shock away from the incision can be due to nerve pinching or trauma during the procedure, exercises, by dressings tight enough or so.
This is usually due to nerve and gets over with time.
Request your Doctors to try the medicines like Amitriptyline for the shock like pain.
May need another local shot in the affected area.
Also get started with nerve tonics and have complete rest to the affected area as it helps healing and pain too.
Continue with medications as already must have been advised.
Sine you are already diagnosed as having fibromyalgia the commonest cause of such pains are anxiety and stress which needs to be well controlled to get better results.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
