Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had cough spasms / clearing of the throat on an average of once every 2 or three days for the last year. I have been prescribed many different meds and used inhalers and nebulizers and nothing seems to make it go away. Where should I go for help?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of coughing spasms which is due to upper respiratory track infection leading to bronchitis/ granular pharyngitis. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day. Avoid use of sharp and spicy food substances. Avoid cold carbonated beverages. You should consult ENT specialist and take proper treatment . Doctor may order throat swab test , blood test , viral culture test and CT scan to find out the exact cause. You should get X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) at least for 5 days along with decongestant.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
