Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Dear Doctor my kid 5 days old has earlier detected Right renal pelvicaliectasis in second level mother ultra sound. After follow up and last mother ultra sound AP diameter renal pelvis was 15 mm and after 2 days of birth it was 13 mm. Doctor has identified this as hydroureteronephrosos. Please suggest how i should move ahead in this case
Thanks for the query. Fetuses with a renal pelvic diameter greater than 15 mm during the third trimester are at the greatest risk for significant renal disease. You are at borderline. Ultrasonography can be performed after they reach age 7 days see if the hydronephrosis is persistent postnatally. Most patients with moderate hydronephrosis have resolution by age 18 months. If the problem persists beyond 7 days , antibiotic prophylaxis may be needed. If does not resolve on its own surgery like, ureteral stent placement in cases of intrinsic and extrinsic causes of hydronephrosis may be needed. Hope i helped you.
