Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my sister who is suffering from hypertension for many year now, is having a problem with her medicines she used to take. Her BP gets controlled with AMLONG A .But she has many side efffects due to that. If that medicine is stopped and some other is given her BP shoots up and she had to be hospitalised. All the tests taken including RENAL ANGIO AND CARDIAC ANGIO showed nothing negative. Either she has to take AMLONG A and suffer its side effects or she has to suffer due to hyper tension .What is the remedy?
You did not write what side effects she is facing as this drug is a combination of two medicines Amlodipine and Atenolol. Both of these have different side effects. If side effects are due to one salt, then that salt may be withdrawn and substituting it by some different salt and keeping the other salt which you are already taking as usual. It may also be possible to increase the dose of one salt omitting the salt which is causing side effects. However, today there is a long list of anti-hypertensive medicines and your doctor may prescribe you some of the drug out of this long list which will not cause you unwanted side effects and also, control your BP.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
