OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Uterine contractions, and fetal head low down in the pelvis are signs of labour. The popping sensation can be due to the release of the mucus plug in the cervix at the start of the labour.
I would suggest you to consult your OBGYN specialist as soon as possible for proper examination and treatment.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
