How To Get Rid Of Brown Pigmentation On The Sides Of Mouth And Improve Gum Health?

Hi I have bee addicted to chewable tobacco for less than a year (5 packets +/- per day, with baba 120 occasionally). I have been having a few glasses of red wine also occasionally. I recently completely stopped everything. I consulted an ENT, who saw general degradation of gums and some brown pigmentation on the sides of the mouth, but said there is nothing that needs to be biopsied, but asked me strictly to quit the habit. Is there something I need to be worried about. Please advise. What are some general remedies for getting rid of the brown pigments and improving gums health? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I can understand your concern for brown pigmentation on the sides of mouth and gum health.

The pigmentation can be caused due to repeated chewing of tobacco and I see it quite often. The pigmentation is nothing to be worried about and is due to ear and tear of skin due to repeated trauma by tobacco. It is the whitish appearance after tobacco chewing which is more dangerous rather than pigmentation to be looked after properly.

Your ENT consultant is quite correct in his suggestion and do follow the same. For gum health you just brush the teeth properly.

All the best.
