How To Get Pregnant?

.Hello, im getting myself in abit of a state, let me explain! Firstly let me tell you that my husband had a vasectomy on 22 November 2010, he has sent in one sample on 14th February (12 weeks post op) not had results yet has got to do another sample at 16 weeks. He ejaculated about 8 times in the first 12 weeks. My problem is ever since having my 3rd baby I fear getting pregnant again! On February 12th we did nt have full blown sex as you might like to call it but he rubbed against me down below with his penis, he did ejaculate but on the bed well away from me. I helped him to do his sperm sample on the 14th Feb but he did nt rub against me or anything this time. it was all abit rushed and he ejaculated in the sample pot! On 20th Feb he rubbed against me with his penis again but this time slipping in me only for about 4 seconds though as he stopped quicky because we knew we should nt be doing it intill he has the all clear, this time he did nt ejaculate! On the 21st Feb he rubbed against me with his penis again, then in a sitting position (he was nt in me, I mean sitting knealing in front of me) He Ejaculated and it went over my legs which I washed off straight away, I checked and no sperm went on my vulva, just my legs! I have no idea when I ovulate as my cycle is about 34 days on average but I am due on my period next week. I have read so many storys about pregnancy and precum I don t know what to believe, what are my chances of being pregnant from what I have described above also given the fact that my husband had a vasectomy Nov last year, how many times does he need to ejaculate to get the all clear or is time more important than the amount of ejaculations?

Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

A vasectomy, if it is successful, should be completely effective (meaning that there are no live sperm in the ejaculate) around 90 days after the operation. It has nothing to do with the number of ejaculations he has after the procedure, all remaining mature sperm will die of old age by then.

So the simplest way to ease your anxiety would have your husband get a current result of a semen analysis, or a negative result from that 16 week test, which would prove that he is sterile. Vasectomy is a permanent procedure which prevents sperm getting into any of his pre- or ejaculatory fluid. So if the operation was successful you do not need to worry about how often or how you have sex. It would be helpful to contact his doctor who performed the procedure to help you obtain his results. If he is azospermic (no sperm) then you don't need to worry about birth control ever again!

I hope this information was reassuring and that I was able to answer your question. Best of luck, Dr. Brown
