Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a ileostomy surgery in 1972 and now I am having rectum pain. I have no rectum because they took it out in 1974 because I was having ulcerated colitis. My pain is throbbing and painful after I eat. I went to a rectal colon surgeon and now they are going to try rehab and also for me to see a neuro doctor. Do you have any ideas of this kind of diagnois and what I can do or think I may have? Thank you Mary Lee Swann
Hi. Thanks for your query. You have got pain in the anal/rectal region in spite of it has been removed in 1974 for ulcerative colitis. You have consulted Recto-colon Surgeon who has suggested you to to go for rehabilitation program and second opinion of the Neurologist. Such a pain in the rectum can come from various reasons: Phantum feeling meaning the organ is not actually present but felling is there. There can a sleep disc and nerve compression. Local inflammation or an abscess and so os. This can be detected by Contrast enhanced CT scan of the whole abdomen and clinical presentation as for the symptoms and signs that are present.
