How Soon Can I Participate In Gym After Having A Small Fracture On Top Of Fibula?

My son just had an MRI on his leg and we were told he has a small fracture (running vertical) on the top of his Fibula by his knee. They are just treating it with a brace and crutches as needed. They told us he should use the leg and put weight on it as tolerated. He s a very active 13 year old and wants to know how soon he can expect to be able to participate in gym or other things.
