How Should Lips Itching, Burning, Redness And Blistering Be Treated?

I have red itchy burning lips again. I just got off prednisone which helped it a lot but now they are back. I went to a dermatologist and she did a patch test for a week but nothing came back. I am very frustrated no one seems to know what it is. My lips feel like sandpaper itch around the lips and almost looks like little blisters, any idea?

Hi Dear ,

As per your query you have itching , burning redness and blistering on your lips prednisone gave relief . Well the symptoms you mention in query are pointing towards conditions like chapped lips , herpes and allergic reaction . Infection and certain medicines like nalidixic acid , furosemide and doxycycline also cause such symptoms . I would suggest you to apply cold compresses to lips , do not apply any cosmetic product , take prednisone and do not pick and lick your lips as it remove natural moist layer of lips . If lips doesn't get better then consult dermatologist for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order certain test like allergy test and blood test to confirm diagnosis and rule out some underlying condition . Doctor may prescribe antibacterial , antiviral , retinoids or anti histamine .
