How Long Will It Take For Broken Femur And Nerve Damage In Foot To Heal?
Hello my name is Jonathan and I was in a bad car accident in 5-7-14 . I broke my right femur I also gained nerve damage to my left foot. My questions- how long will it take for me to take the rod out of my leg? Should I take out the screws first? What steps should I take so this process goes as fast and smooth as possible? Today is 10/22/15 and I feel like crap my life has completely changed my life.
Hello and welcome to HCM, The minimum period required for any bone to unite is 6 weeks, however, the time period may be prolonged if the fracture is compound. Compound fractures are those in which fracture site has multiple bone fragments. A regular follow up with your orthopedician is required to assess the fracture site and also to assess the weight bearing. Recovery of nerve damage depends on the type of nerve injury and extent of injury. Most of the nerve injuries recover with regeneration but time may vary from injury to injury. After the bone has united, the prosthesis are removed and the site is allowed to heal. Physiotherapy and little movement of the leg are required to allow the fracture to unite well in time.
