Hello, looking at your history it seems that you have long standing GERD.
It is very likely that you would need to be on continous or intermittent pantoprazole
I would suggest that you take pantocid 40 for 2 months and the reduce the dose to 20 mg for the next two months in case the symptoms recurr after stopping the drug then the chance are that you might need pantoprazole on long term basis
Hope this helps, Do get back in case you have further queries

Welcome to healthcaremagic,
In GERD the lower esophageal sphicter which is the ring of muscle between the esophagus and stomach is effected. This result in stomach acid coming up from the stomach into the esophagus.
Some people are prone for GERD and dyspepsia. In many patients it subsides with medication but reoccurs when they stop it.
In order prevent reoccurrence of the disease follow the given advice:
1. Take medications regularly Tab Pantop 40 mg (You may need to take it continuously for 1 or 2 months as advised by your physician)
2. Avoid certain foods like alcohol, coffee, chocolate, peppermint, spicy and fried foods which may trigger reflux and heartburn.
3. Stop smoking if you are a smoker
4. Your weight should be in the normal range (BMI 18.5 to 25). Obesity promotes GERD and dyspepsia.
5. Regular exercise like walking daily for atleast 30minutes per day.
6. Head end elevation while sleeping helps prevent acid reflux.
7. Curd and buttermilk is good for your help as it helps control acidity. So have them regularly.
8. Use antacid such as ENO whenever required as they will relieve your symptoms and correct the acidity.
Your problems will slowly improve over a period of 1 to 2 months and later on most likely there will be no need for medications if you follows the above given advice.
Hope that answers your questions.
Regards, Dr.Imaad.
