Hello,

Treatment for pneumonia generally lasts one week and this should suffice.

The improvement of symptoms might take longer though. While the antibiotics help kill the bacteria, symptoms will improve after all the repairs have happened in the lung tissues.

After the infection and this process can take up to 6 weeks which means patients still may feel weak, may have a cough and chest X-ray changes the weeks after (fever should not last more than 2-3 days after the start of the antibiotics).

So the need to rest is evident in the case of pneumonia and this need is different in different patients from a few days for some patients to a few weeks for others.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
