How Long Should Tamiflu Be Taken For The Treatment Of Flu?

My husband started Tamiflu 4 days after a rapid onset of the flu. Because i am traveling next week out of the country, i was prescribed Tamiflu 3 days ago. My husband is now fever free for 36 hours and feeling much better. The Tamiflu clearly helped him. I do not have any flu symptoms and am wondering if i can stop takign the Tamiflu. My husband will continue for the rest of the course of treatment. But if i dont need to continue, have no symptoms and he is no longer contagious, can i stop taking it

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

As per your clinical history is concerned, please complete the course as prescribed by your doctor for five days. Do follow lifestyle modification like this -
1) Wash your hands. Thorough and frequent hand-washing is an effective way to prevent many common infections. Or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers if soap and water aren't readily available.

2) Contain your coughs and sneezes. Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or a cough. To avoid contaminating your hands, cough or sneeze into a tissue.

3) Try to avoid crowds. By avoiding crowds during peak flu season, you reduce your chances of infection.

4) Discuss with your doctor about the yearly flu vaccination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo
