How Long Does The Effect Of Loxalate Tablets Control The System?

Hi. I have a girlfriend who has been taking loxalate tablets (pretty much lexapro) for 2 around 2 months for her anxiety and her personality has changed DRASTICALLY. To the point of her breaking up with me. Here s the story: She had started taking the medicine in early March for in her words to help me overcome my anxiety to finally get my drivers licence . Our relationship (just going on 3 and a half years) was happier and better than ever! Half way through March I had to leave for a music tour in the states, in our relationship this wasn t uncommon for my job and was never a problem. Everything was fine and we were both mutually speaking with each other exchanging I love you and I miss yous. Until around the 10th of April when she completely changed her attitude/personality. She would hardly text me, went out drinking a lot when she had NEVER been into it, she started socialising a LOT (she s never been a social butterfly) and even rekindling old friendships with people she hardly talked to because of negative things in the past. I got through my trip trying to stay in contact with her as best I could through mostly texting until about 2 days before I came home when she out of the blue broke up with me over text. Her reasoning: I ve just fallen out of love I came home and walked through the front door to see her and right away I could tell she was VERY different from when I left her a month and a half earlier. Her mannerisms, voice, music taste, style and personality were SO far from the girl I dated for 3 and a half years. I found out that she had been taking the loxalate medication and I started piecing the puzzles together. I was told by a professional that it takes around a good month for that medication to come fully into affect. She had taken a 10mg tablet everyday for 2 months. Her extreme behaviour/personality changes came in affect around April the 10th, she started taking the pills in early March. I don t think this is a coincidence at all. The decisions she has been making, especially our break up have been extremely out of character and impulsive for her and me and her close friends are concerned. After talking to her she agreed to come off the medicine because she feels good and like she doesn t need to depend on it anyways. The doctor said since she was only taking the medicine for 2 months that she was able to stop taking it cold-turkey without tapering. She has now been off the loxalate for 2 weeks and I have noticed her personality change almost back to the way she was before, incredibly! But she still is having moments of slipping back into the strange behaviour every once in a while and she is sticking to the impulsive decisions she made when she was taking the medication. There definitely had been some improvement. My question to you is: -How much longer until the chemicals in her brain go back to the way they were before the medication? -Essentially, when will the aftermath of this medicine stop affecting her? -Can I expect her to go back to her normal way of thinking so we can talk about everything rationally? I have been told a number of different answers ranging from a couple weeks to a couple months. With all the information provided can you please give me a straight answer? Thankyou so much.

Hello,

The Loxalate is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) used for situations of major depression and anxiety by many of the expert Psychiatrists with best results. However, the raised level of serotonin in the brain is associated with variety of ill effects through the use of medication over a period of time as:

It is the excess of alcohol which is making the effects of drug much to greater than clinical expectation, because the effects over P 450 enzyme system of the liver. I would suggest you for a detailed interrogation with her when she is not under influence of alcohol. So far as the effects of the drug is concerned, after the last dose consumption , it takes around 7-10 working days to get the total clearance of the drug from the body system.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
