How Long Does Digoxin Take To Cure Irregular Heart Beats?

Have been given prescription for Digoxin for irregular heartbeat, am 84 years old, this is my first time taking any prescription medication for my heart, and wonder how long does it take for the medicine to take effect and level out. I have not had a heart attack and my blood pressure has always been below 125 over 75. Thank you.

Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

Digoxin is a drug derived from digitalis plant. It is used to make the heart beat stronger and regulate its rhythm. Its effect is immediate once you start take it.

It is used in disorders of heart rhythm such as atrial fibrillation and in heart failure, where heart beats not regularly.

I advise to take the medication as prescribed by your doctor even if you are not feeling any symptom. Do not stop it immediately without consulting with your doctor.
