How Long After Washout Procedure Of Leflunomide Intake Is Conceiving Safe?

Hello, I have been taking Leflunomide until last December and then I told my doctor that I would like to try for a baby with my wife. I had the 11 day washout procedure until mid January (cholestyramine). After that I was advised that it was not necessary to have a blood test in order to check the Leflunomide levels in my blood. Do you believe it is safe to do so now? I have also read in some websites that you need to wait for 3 months after the washout so as to be on the safe side. Kind regards

Hi,

It's really REALLY dangerous! Without the washout the time to get rid of the drug Metabolite which is dangerous is 2 years. The drug is broken down by the liver to a very very long lasting compound that does the real action. If even thinking about keeping a pregnancy if it accidentally occurred, this drug should not be used. AND good blood monitoring with checking for its active break down product, its active metabolite should be done and probably redone.
