How Is Strep Related To Bartholin S Cysts?

How does strep relate to Bartholin Cysts? I ve had strep before and have recently discovered a Bartholin cyst near my labia. I m curious if my history with strep is related to the cyst because I have also just started to notice that my neck feels tense and my ears have been feeling like they need to be popped. When I first noticed the cyst I started researching what it was and have seen a few articles saying they can be caused by STIs and am wondering if there s a way I can tell if the cyst is because of strep or an STI or if it was just a random thing. In addition, I punctured (with a needle) and drained the cyst myself at some and am continuing to keep it clean and try to prevent fuild from building up again. Not I m wondering if that was the right choice or not. How should continue to treat the cyst? What can I do to prevent it in the future? Is the only way to know what caused the cyst to see a doctor?

Hello and welcome to HCM,
Bartholins cyst is caused by accumulation of secretions in the Bartholins glands.
Once secretions accumulate, they can get infected.
The infection can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or by other sexually transmitted infectious agents.
Depending on the cause of infection, appropriate management is done.
However, the swelling should not be punctured by a needle since it can lead to superimposed infection.
Maintaining good hygiene will prevent recurrence of infection.
The appropriate treatment of bartholin cystitis is antibiotic followed by removing the roof of the swelling without rupturing with any needle or pin.

Thanks and take care
