How Is Liver Cirrhosis Diagnosed?

I have stage 3 liver disease with bridging fibrosis and mallory s bodies. The fat in the sample was 70%. What I want to know is how do they know when it is cirrhosis? When I am jaundiced, acites, portal hypertension, and elevated liver enzymes? My enzymes have not been very high and sometimes normal. Confused.

Hi,

Liver cirrhosis diagnosis is not very straight. There may be some evidence on ultrasound but ultrasound does not pick early cirrhosis.

Confirm diagnosis is made on biopsy however it is only done if there is doubt. Fibrsocan these days may avoid need of biopsy.

The finding you said is consistent with fibrosis. What you said that there is no jaundice or portal hypertension, these symptoms are not necessary with early cirrhosis. These are there when cirrhosis is very advanced.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
