Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I went to ER they did a CT scan and the diagnosis was Ulcerative Colitis. I went to the GI and I was told they need to do a colonoscopy in about 6 weeks for inflation to go down, but the pain is getting worst and I think inflation is worst than before. I was on antibiotics for one week and the doctor did not prescribe any thing else. Is that normal if I really have the ulcerative colitis?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. Ulcerative colitis can't be cured but can achieve remission and maintain remission and improve life quality with minimal side effects. Ulcerative colitis is treated with 5ASA drugs( sulfasalasine mesalasine) , systemic corticosteroids and topical corticosteroids and imunomodulators (methotrexate, azathioprine). Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
