How Can Sternocleidomastoid Muscle Enlargement Be Treated?

In April I came back from deployment to the Middle East. I am looking to re-deploy in the next couple of weeks and I needed a re-deployment physical. I have just returned from the physical and the physician s assistant informed me that there is symmetrical swelling of the sternocleidomastoid muscles in the neck. Is this cause for concern? I do not take medications and there is no pain or tenderness when it is palpated.

Dear patient
Symmetrical swelling of bilateral sternocleidomastoid muscles may be normal finding if it is not related to pain or restricted movement. This may occur in person doing physiotherapy for neck muscle strengthening. Correct wording should be Scm hypertrophy rather than swelling. All the best for re deployment.
