How Can Sore Throat With Swelling, Spots And Congestion Be Treated?

my child is 5 years old. he occasionally complains about a sore throat. Looked at his throat differnent times of the day. some times his throat is swollen a lot and at other times its not as swollen but did have bright red spots in the back sides of his throat. he is congested as usual. does he need to see a doctor or is this most likely viral?

Hi.

I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

Sore throat in your child may be due to viral or bacterial pharyngitis. I advice you to,
- start antibiotics like erythromycin
- Analgesics to relieved of pain
- always give warm water for sip
- Gargle with salt water or condy's gargle
- soft diet

If it's of viral origin will subside in a week & if it's due to bacteria, once after starting antibiotics symptoms will settle down.

- if you find large neck nodes, spikes of fever despite of medications, earache & discharge, you have to consult your doctor for further assistance.
