How Can Skin Cracks On The Corners Of The Mouth Be Treated?

Both sides of my mouth keep cracking open, nothing seems to help. Been using a lip ointment my dr recommend & vitamin B12 complex, doesn't seem to be working. I found a tube of Mometasone Furoate Cream USP , 0.1%
Can I use this on these cracks on the edge of my mouth?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from Angular Cheilitis leading to cracked corners of the mouth and can occur due to a number of common causes Iron deficiency or Anaemia, fungal infection, ill fitting dentures, loss of teeth leads to folds of skin at the mouth corners etc..

Mometasone furoate is a steroid based cream so it should be used safely as they can cause certain side effects..

You can also apply a thick coat of Petroleum jelly over the corners to relieve the dryness and smoothen the area..
You can apply a combination of antibiotic and anti-fungal ointment.
Do cool compresses..
Take multivitamin tablet for 15 days..
Drink plenty of water..
You can keep the area clean and do not let moisture accumulate in that area..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
