How Can Sinusitis Along With Sore Throat Be Treated?

I started tamaflu yesterday after my doctors and discussed my symptoms of ear ache, runny nasal passages and sore throat.
Today my throat is much worse. Red streaks and white spots.....however I do not have a fever. Lots of sinus congestion and sinus pressure. So, my doctor started me on clarithromycin ( I am allergic to penicillin)
The dose is 250 2x a day
My doctor said I could continue the tamiflu if I wanted. I'm not I do. I don't want to take more than I need. and one medication treated viral the other bacteria. I would appreciate your opinion.

Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!.
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.
The symptoms you have mentioned suggest the possibility of acute sinusitis,The viral fever which you had earlier might predisposed to the sinusitis.
You don't need to worry much as it is readily curable condition and chance of complications are less.
I suggest you to consult a general practitioner and get the following things done:-
1.You can continue the course of tamiflu.Persistent viral fever may predispose to develop sinusitis.
2.Start a short course of antibiotics for five to seven days. Clarithromycin is quite effective and you can very well continue that.
3.You can take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain and fever.
4.Nasal decongestants like xylometazoline provide symptomatic relief.
5.You can use antihistamines like cetrezine for controlling the symptoms.
6.Do warm saline gargles or gargling with chlorhexidine containg mouthwash.
If the symptoms persist despite all these you have to consult an ENT specialist for detailed evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.

Regards.
Dr.Shinas Hussain
