How Can Severe Pain In The Lower Back Be Treated?

I have suffered with bi-polar II disorder and fibromyalgia for about 20 years. I have been on Seroquel for about 15 years but recently suffered a back injury and I am worried because I know that Seroquel does not mix well with Opiods and I have been placed on 5mg of Vicodin 2 x day while they get my MRI and other test. I had recently spoke with my Phyciatrist about trying to switch from Seroquel to another drug due to weight gain that I believe is from the Seroquel. The Doctor tried to switch me to Latuda and while I was coming off the Seroquel, I lost 4 pounds. I was unable to stay on the Latuda because I could not sleep. I had always taken Seroquel and Ambien at bedtime and found that I had to take both to get sleep. If I forgot to fill one I would not sleep. I was so sleep deprived, I had to go back on the Seroquel and Ambien because my mental state was deteriorating! I guess my question is how can I come off the Seroquel and get my body back in line to sleep without it. If I can t do that, I can t change medications and the Seroquel is really not helping. I have been stuck in depression most of the past 20 years. Doing good just means staying out of the hospital. Now with the back injury, I am having major lower back pain and spasms, I am concerned with them prescribing me pain medication but am suffering and need something. I would appreciate your advise on this. Thank you.

hi mam/sir,i can understand your agony.the first thing we do in our hospital is explain our patients the importance and constraints of medication for bipolar disorder.i would stress more on the psychotherapy.medication alone surely wont help.psychotherapy that includes interpersonal and social rhythm therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy and psychoeducation combined with medication has given wonderful results in many of my patients suffering from bipolar disorder.regarding back injury and pain, there are several pain medications other than opioids like NSAIDs that would relieve your pain.but the need of the hour is a consultation with a clinical psychologist with a very good knowledge and experience in psychotherapy and start your counselling sessions.please be patient as it takes time to overcome but certainly you can do that.be positive.take care.if any thing else, please let me know so that i can attend immediately.bye.
