How Can Runny Nose Be Treated?

Hi, my husband has had 2 strokes, one in 2012 (fully recovered) and 1 in 2014 (severe right side weakness). He was on a feed tube and trach (both removed). He was eating and then in 2016 had a brain bleed. Took a set back with eating but sees a speech therapist and is eating. Probem is excessive nasal dripping and secretions. He eats certain things fine one day and then has trouble the next. Is there anything to help? He feels the nose is the problem otherwise he feels he can eat better. Thanks for help. Susand

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Stroke patients are often have ryles tube for feeding.
Ryles tube causes nasal mucosa changes on long term.
And this mucosal change can lead to chronic rhinitis.
So you should take optimal care in providing moisture to nose.
So give him steam inhalation, nasal saline drops, frequent change of ryles tube etc are needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
