How Can Primary Complex In A Child Be Treated?

Hi, my daughter is 4 years old and was diagnosed with primary complex, please give me exact details of what she should eat. Also, can she still go to school or she has to stay at home for the whole 6 months medication? Does she has to have her own utensils to prevent others from being infected? She is also wearing mask the whole day whether at home or in school. Please tell me if I am doing the right thing. Really need complete details. thanks.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I believe that by using the term, "primary complex," you mean LTBI (latent tuberculosis infection). LTBI is a tuberculosis infection in a person who has a positive skin or blood test, no physical findings of disease, and chest X-ray findings that are normal or show evidence of healed infection. Young children with no cough and normal chest X-ray can be considered to be non-contagious. They would not have to wear a mask and can attend school. Follow a nutritious diet - include fiber-rich fruits and vegetables; whole-grain products; consume 2 cups of fat-free or low-fat milk or equivalent milk products each day; prepare foods with little salt, sugars, or sweeteners; and no raw or unpasteurized milk or foods. The same well-washed (soap and warm water) utensils for use by every family member including your daughter.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Arnold Zedd
