Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Pitted Edema In The Feet And Lower Legs Be Treated?
I have pitted edema in my feet and lower legs...I have abdominal swelling too, other side effect lisinophyll fatigue. I was prescribed this medication for high blood pressure. I have several tests ordered by my doctor. I quit taking this med, to see ifs the swelling decreases. What do you think or suggest?
Lisinopril is a common drug used for hypertension which is a very safe drug. In many cases, Lisinopril will be having minimal side effects. But in some patients (hypersensitive to Lisinopril) there may be serious side effects. These include swelling, trouble in breathing et cetera.
Pitting edema can be seen in kidney or liver or heart disease. So, it is better to go for the following investigations to exclude above causes: 1. Renal function tests 2. Liver function tests 3. X-ray chest 4. ECG
Coming to treatment of pitting edema can be treated as follows: 1. Elevation of limb 2. Use of compression stocks 3. Taking diuretics
I believe you will exclude all the causes and conclude the actual cause by following the above aspects. By this, you can go for treating underlying cause or else you can go for treating pitting edema directly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Vamsi Krishna Chittimoju
