How Can Peripheral Neuropathy In The Lower Legs Be Treated?

I have a neurological disorder due to toxic encephalopathy (dexedrine for ADHD x 12 years) I wake up able to walk. Now within an hour, my wide base, shuffling walk starts and gets worse all day. I ride a bike because my biking is not affected, I know where my feet are. Lol. I carry canes for when I stop. Since onset in 2006 to today I have lost my sense of proprioception. I have better leg strength due to biking. Balance and gait disorder is getting worse. I m 64, have used two canes when needed since 2006. Moderate peripheral neuropathy in lower legs but pain is now increasing too. I take propranolol la 120 MG q am for B/P, .5 klonopin hs spasms. I m getting worse. Limited access to Doctors due to living in Wyoming and costs of getting to one. Medicare in Oct. - 65 - yeah.

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. . I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
Peripheral neuropathy which is usually a result of damage to your peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in your hands and feet. It can also affect other areas of your body.
Treatment actually depends on the right cause. Most common causes are diabetes, alcoholism, inherited disorders or trauma and medications however, many other causes may be seen so tests are required to identify the right one. Till that you can do some general remedies: Avoid factors that may cause nerve damage, including repetitive motions, cramped positions, exposure to toxic chemicals, smoking and overindulging in alcohol. Also take vitamin d supplemets and regulate blood sugar levels.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
