Hello and welcome to Ask a doctor service. I have read through your question and here is my opinion. You have given a history of physical assault which may have lead to injury in your neck and back muscles. The symptoms you are describing can also be caused in cervical spondylitis which leads to stiffness and pain in neck muscles. I would advise you to get yourself checked by an orthopaedic surgeon. He will do a physical examination and may also advise an MRI of the cervical spine. Mean you can take an over the counter painkiller like advil to relieve the pain. I hope that answers your question.Let me know if I can assist you further. Have a nice day.
