How Can Pain And Numbness In The Back And Legs Be Treated?

I had an auto accident six months ago, and my back has been bothering me. I had an MRI and it shows that I have 3 discs that have stenosis. I had back pain and have been taking narcotic pills Oxcotin and Vicadin for 2 months, then hydrocodone and tramadol for 3 months, then tramadol for 1 month. I have just quit the tramadol completely. My pain specialist is weaning me off of the narcotic drugs slowly. Now I have tingling and numbness in my legs and increased back pain, mostly when I try to sleep and It interrupts my sleep or I can t get to sleep. If I stay in bed it doesn t go away. If I get up and walk around and it stops. What is problem and is there a good solution?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for using healthcare magic

Numbness and tingling imply that the nerves are not functioning as they should.
This is called neuropathy.

It can be temporary or permanent.

There are medications that can help such as lyrica, gabapentin, tegretol, amitriptyline.
These are all meds used for neuropathy though they have other uses as well.

Physiotherapy may also be helpful as well

I hope this helps
