How Can Oral Thrush In An Infant Be Treated?

Hi

My 19month baby has some sort of mouth infection. Her gums are swollen they bleed when I brush them and it is leaking pus. Her breath smelt a lot worst last week but I really need a solution.

She has seen a dentist who said she is too young for treatment and to just brush her teeth but surely brushing her teeth is not going to make the infection go away?

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern. As per your query your infant have symptoms of oral thrush which seems to be due to fungal infection which remains persistent and leading to formation of thick white layer in oral cavity and its surfaces. It could be due to poor oral hygiene and immuno- compromised state of body.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to give Probiotics like Yoghurt in diet and Amphotericin B and maintain complete oral hygiene. You should visit oral pathologist once if symptoms keeps on persisting and start treatment after prescription. Go for biopsy of lesions if symptoms keeps on persisting. Avoid sharp, hot and spicy foods. You should swish with nystatin suspensions.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
