How Can Itchy Rashes On The Body Be Treated?

Hi, my name is Arjuna and I am an Indonesian Chinese. I have been suffering from chronic itch for the past 3 months. I am 66 years old. I went to my doc about a month ago. She prescribed cetirizin 5 mg. taken once daily. She says it s hives. She was reluctant to give me a corticosteroid jab. The rashes are very mild, hardly noticeable under a cursory glance. However I still itch and it is getting worse. The warm showers did not help but aggravated my condition. I notice, the condition gets worse when I do household chores like cleaning and washing....please advice

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Chronic itching and hives seems to be most probably due to allergic reaction only.

In case if it aggravates while cleaning or washing then it can be probably due to any washing detergents, soaps etc..

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests like Patch test, RAST test, food challenge test etc can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly..

The tests will help in ruling out the exact cause of the allergen and once you know the cause of the allergic reaction you can avoid exposure to it to prevent allergy attack..

The allergist can advise to oral anti allergics as well as injectable steroids for relief..

As of now you can take anti-allergics like Levocetrizine, Allegra to control the itching and swelling..
Do cool compresses..
Application of calamine lotion can help in soothing the skin..

You can also be instilled an Immunotherapy that will help in reducing the severity and frequency of allergic attack..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
