How Can Itchy Rashes On The Body Be Treated?

hello , my 91 yr old mother has a rash that is very itchy. The doctor told her it is a rash of undetermined origin and gave her medication to control the itch. She continues to break out . This has been happening for 2 months . The meds are not working and she is ready to flip out. No changes to her life style . Any suggestions ? My email is YYYY@YYYY / Thank you sorry to have bothered you . I did not realize this was a pay site. Please disregard.

Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern.
Some advices that I can give to you are :
After a rash has developed, leave it alone as much as possible.
-Use soap and water sparingly.
-Leave the rash exposed to the air whenever possible.
-Do not scratch the rash.
-use calamine lotion
-use hydrocortisone cream
-Keep the itchy area cool and moist.
-Keep cool, and stay out of the sun. Heat makes itching worse.
-Wear cotton clothing.
-Use gentle soaps, such as Basis, Cetaphil, Dove, or Oil of Olay, and use as little soap as possible. Do not use deodorant soaps.
-Wash your clothes with a mild soap.
-Do not let the skin become too dry, which may make itching worse.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
